   Foundation of Reality : Matter or       Consciousness?

Ironically, it was Science, not Religion, that revealed the teleological tendencies of the natural world -- that it is evolving in a positive direction. Most traditional religions have always assumed a steady-state universe that either stays the same forever, or simply goes around in circles. But agnostic or godless scientists determined that the evidence from Biology, Geology, and Paleontology indicates that many small random changes add-up to progressive evolution toward increasing order and complexity -- at least in the corner of the cosmos we can study in detail. Of course, that development is not perfectly deterministic -- more like a little dance of creation : two steps forward and one step back. But it seems to imply some purpose behind the prancing procession.

Many scientists though, don't see the signs of progress, because they prefer to focus on the the big picture of a universe that is winding down from the energy apex of the Big Bang -- from the crystaline order of the original Singularity, to the heat death of the final state. But on the local scale, onward & upward evolution seems to be just getting started on its journey of creation. Over the eons of evolution the compact code of that cosmic program (the singularity) has complexified into material forms with enough imperfections and internal freedoms to come to life and to think about "Life, the Universe, and God". Again, ironically, information is most meaningful when it combines the stability of order with the freedom of disorder1.

Several physicists and Neuroscientists of the 21st century have revived the ancient term Panpsychism to represent the evidence that metaphysical Consciousness (in the generic form of Information) is the primary element from which all physical and mental forms of the current world emerged2.

Thus the concept of information becomes closely related to notions of constraint, communication, control, data, form, education, knowledge, meaning, understanding, mental stimuli, pattern, perception, representation, and entropy.
